CPL 2022: Match 6 - Barbados Royals vs Saint Lucia Kings
Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts
10:00 AM local time
This is the first time both teams will face off in the season. Historically, a total of 18 T20s have been played between them. The Royals lead the head-to-head tally, winning 11 of those games, while the Kings have 7 wins to their name. At Warner Park, both sides have clashed in 4 T20s, sharing equal honours in terms of victories.
The last time these two teams locked horns, Kyle Mayers' unbeaten 81 guided the Royals to an 8-wicket win at the same venue. Overall, this ground has hosted 89 T20s, with 160/7 being the highest first-innings score. On 51 of those occasions, teams batting second have gone on to win the match. The pacers have traditionally enjoyed more success in the wickets column, while the spinners have been more economical.
The Royals' batting line-up has been bolstered by Quinton de Kock's arrival ahead of the encounter. It remains to be seen who he replaces in the Playing XI that won them the first game of the season. Afghanistan's Mujeeb Ur Rahman remains on international duty at the ongoing Asia Cup in the UAE.
Royals to watch
Devon Thomas - The wicketkeeper-batter loves playing at this venue, having scored 545 runs in 26 innings in the CPL. Against the Kings alone, he has racked up 230 of those runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 127.1. The right-hand batter has been slotted in the middle order, meaning his handy knocks will be important for the Royals towards the end of their innings.
Jason Holder - The all-rounder's flexibility across departments makes him one of the most vital cogs in this Royals line-up. His figures of 2/21 in the previous game included key wickets of Darren Bravo and Dewald Brevis and helped break partnerships at crucial junctures. Jason has also scored 200 runs in 16 CPL innings so far, striking at a humongous rate of 140.8. 11 of his 17 wickets and 172 of his runs in the tournament have come against the Kings.
• Devon Thomas is 5 dismissals away from completing 100 dismissals in T20s
