It’s time for our first home game of the season, and what is bigger than a classic Barbados Royals vs Trinbago Knight Riders match-up?

By the numbers, the Royals trail the Knight Riders in the head-to-head record - with the latter having registered 12 victories in 21 meetings. However, the Royals - who have nine wins - can take pride in winning four of the six T20 contests between the two sides at the Kensington Oval

The Kensington Oval is a welcome mystery, as seen by the difference in the win/loss record of teams (all-time and the last 10 games) at the coin toss. Pace bowlers, given the bounce on offer, will be preferred to make an impact in the powerplay. Batters, on the other hand, will earn the license to score runs on a whim, as the ground has produced an average winning score of over 160.

Royal to watch

Taking a cue from Rovman Powell’s masterclass in St Kitts, Kyle Mayers will look to step up and showcase his ability to produce fireworks against the Trinbago Knight Riders. The all-rounder has scored 265 runs against TKR at a strike rate of 154.1. An opportunity to register a personal milestone (two runs needed for 1,000 CPL runs) is on offer for Mayers, and the Bajans can be assured that the Windies star will shine in our first home fixture of CPL 2023.

Milestone corner

- Jason Holder needs two more catches to surpass Dwayne Bravo and go second on the list of most catches taken by a non-wicketkeeper in CPL history (51)

- Jason Holder requires 15 to reach 1,000 runs in his CPL career

- Kyle Mayers has to score two more to complete 1,000 runs in CPL

- Rovman Powell is six away from 100 sixes in CPL
