Earlier, Hayley Matthews won the toss and put the Knight Riders in to bat first. It was a commendable bowling performance from the Royals, who kept the Knight Riders' run-flow in check with regular wickets. Deandra Dottin's half-century powered them along, but a three-wicket penultimate over from skipper Hayley meant that the opponents were restricted to 100/7 in their 20 overs.
The chase began well, despite the Royals losing a couple of early wickets in the Powerplay. Once again, it was Hayley who led from the front, this time with her steady knock of 46 that helped keep the innings together. But the Knight Riders bowlers bounced back in the middle overs. And once Hayley was dismissed in the 19th over, it was all but over for the Royals who ended up falling short by just 10 runs.
